BAY COURT's owners, brothers Brian and Ian Conway are doctors with over 50 years collective experience in NHS medicine. Our qualified, experienced and dedicated staff provide round the clock care in an informal and homely environment. Training of staff is ongoing and has a high priority.

We also have a dedicated member who guides our residents in a variety of art and craft sessions.

Food is prepared in the home's well-equipped kitchen and daily menus, based on fresh produce in season, offer residents a variety of meals. Diets and individual requirements are specially catered for. Light refreshments are available any time on request. Friends and relatives are always welcome and are automatically included in morning coffee and afternoon tea. Those who use the dining room to entertain guests may have their own table for this purpose.

Individuality
Residents will be helped to retain their sense of identity and their rights will be safeguarded without any form of discrimination. Residents will not lose their rights of entitlement to health services, to social security personal allowances and to vote. They may handle their finances for as long as they wish, and have the capacity to so do. Residents are also encouraged to bring to the home any personal possessions including a few items of furniture, to be agreed prior to admission. This will help to maintain their own individuality, and give their room a familiar feel. We consider this to be extremely important. All individuals’ religious and cultural beliefs will be respected.

Self Respect & Dignity
We will show residents courtesy and respect at all times. We encourage residents in our care to express their own views. Their views will be listened to and they will not feel patronised.

Independence
Staff will help residents achieve a level of independence compatible with their wishes and abilities and will consult with residents’ family and friends in order to understand each resident’s requirements. Residents are encouraged to participate in decision making about any proposed action which will affect their lifestyle, as far as they wish and are able to so do. Residents have the right to exercise choice in their access to personal privacy. Where appropriate they will be encouraged to manage their personal affairs.

Privacy
Each resident will have as much privacy or companionship as they wish. A resident’s personal affairs will be conducted in private with the involvement of and access to other individuals, only when the resident so wishes. Residents will be accorded the right of privacy in all matters to do with
· Intimate care
· Consultation with health and social care practitioners
· Consultation with legal or financial advisors
· Receiving visitors
Residents will be able to maintain contact with family and friends in whichever way they wish.

Choice
Residents will be addressed using terms of their own choice. They are able to maintain their autonomy by deciding how they spend their day at BAY COURT. A resident’s independence and autonomy are only curtailed in specific and agreed circumstances of high risk. This would be discussed with them and/or next of kin. Residents have the right to receive visitors at any time.

Change
Residents’ needs may alter with the passage of time and staff will be empathetic in order that new requirements can be met and maintained as far as is practicable.

Advocacy
Residents are not left isolated and unsupported. They are helped to express their concerns and seek resolution of their problems. When necessary, they will be helped to contact external advisors who may act in their interest.

Leisure
We recognise that mental and physical activity are essential to good health and to this end residents are encouraged to participate in the general activities of the home.
