At Bay Court, we are proud to support the next generation of healthcare professionals through our strong partnership with University of Exeter. Our student nurses consistently demonstrate exceptional dedication and compassion, and we are delighted that their efforts—and the quality of our learning environment—have been recognised with a Gold Standard Award from Skills for Care.

This commitment to excellence has also been acknowledged at a national level, with Bay Court receiving an award for excellence in a care setting from Deborah Sturdy. These accolades reflect not only the high standards of care we provide, but also our passion for mentoring and developing future healthcare professionals.

We have been involved in:-

•  Collaborating with the University of Exeter in the development of the national Practice Supervisor resource for social care
• Actively participated in conference and workshop delivery, particularly those focused on enhancing student nurse experiences within social care
• Supported initiatives that promote the visibility and value of social care as a high-quality learning environment for future nurses

We maintain close links with local colleges and schools, offering meaningful placements in Health and Social Care, alongside tailored work experience opportunities for individuals preparing for medical school or pursuing careers in nursing. These experiences are designed to inspire, educate, and equip learners with real-world insight into the care sector.

'My experiences at Bay Court have been fantastic, extremely well supported and have learnt a massive amount. The staff are extremely welcoming, friendly and are very keen to assist with the students learning. They provide 1:1 support through your placement there. In the care home there is an enormous variety of learning ranging from taking bloods, palliative care, wounds, and dressing care, fall's assessments and mobility risk assessments, catheterisations, and catheter care, reviewing and writing care plans for residents. 
The residents have a variety of different medical conditions for students to learn about. The staff are all extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful to all students.  
The managers are very supportive and are always there to answer any questions or queries students have or to address any concerns raised. 
I would highly recommend this as a placement for student nurses.
There are opportunities for spoke days at the doctor’s surgery in Budleigh, district nurses, palliative care community nurses and to spend time with the physiotherapist that comes to visit Bay Court. ' Student Nurse 2025

'I have been on placement as a Student Nurse at a Nursing home in Budleigh Salterton called Bay court. When I first heard that I was going to have a placement in a nursing home I was apprehensive as I was unsure how many learning opportunities there would be for me. 
When I arrived at the Bay court, I had a great welcome and was straight into working with the nursing team to learn about a nurse's role in the home. As well as this I was also able to work alongside Tracey was the Nursing Home's manager and is also a Registered Nurse. Throughout my training I have not been able to have many experiences working with and learning from the manager at my various placements. As managing is a role which is open to Nurses this was a great learning experience to understand how this role works. 
Overall, the time I spent with Bay Court was one of the best I have had as a student. Every member of the team was brilliant at making me feel welcome and integrating me into their team. I learnt a lot from my short time there and will take those learnings into the rest of my career.'  Student Nurse 2025
